THANK YOU Zeke Upshaw Foundation for sponsoring the 2nd Annual Your Bold Is Beautiful Women’s Empowerment Summit taking place October 23rd and 24th!! The mission of the Zeke Upshaw Foundation is to spread heart health awareness and advocate for improved heart screenings for all athletes. The foundation was launched on the sudden and devastating loss of Zena Ray “Zeke” Upshaw. In March 2018, during an NBA G-League game with only 40 seconds left in the last quarter, Zeke collapsed and died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). No life saving measures were immediately administered.
The goal of the foundation is to educate athletes, teammates and coaches on ways to keep players safe by reacting quickly and properly. Through fundraising and donations, the foundation was able to gift AEDs to deserving organizations, who are also committed to educating their student athletes on this deadly disease and the importance of quick action. This influential and impactful organization provides heart health education and awareness, mentorship, tutoring and community engagement.
Zeke’s mother, Jewel Upshaw founded the organization keeping his legacy alive by continuing his journey of giving back to the community and helping children. Since Zeke’s sudden transition, Jewel has dedicated her time to educating student athletes on recognizing the signs and symptoms associated with SCA coupled with the importance of AED and CPR administration.
A Chicago native with new roots in Las Vegas, Jewel decided to begin her foundation’s mission in these two cities because she wanted to give back to those who’ve influenced her and Zeke. With time, Jewel’s goal is to ensure the foundation’s mission is fulfilled throughout the nation.
Jewel led a stellar career with over 24 years of management experience with one of the largest pension administrators in the U.S. Here she managed a staff of approximately 20 employees. Today, Jewel is a full-time entrepreneur and advocate focusing on expanding her foundation’s mission. She devotes her time campaigning the importance of heart screenings and the need for AED and CPR training. All the while, continuing to raise funds to purchase and donate new AEDs to deserving organizations.

Dr. Michelle Giddings is dually certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner; she is the owner of Peaceful Mind Psychiatric Services in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Giddings received the American Psychiatric Nurses Association National Award for Excellence in Practice in 2020. She also received a Proclamation from the office of the Mayor on June 19th, 2019, for her service to the Las Vegas community. Dr. Giddings is the current President of the Nevada Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA).
Dr. Giddings is an expert clinician, speaker, and educator on mental health issues. She has testified before the Nevada legislature on behalf of APRNs in Nevada. Her mental health advocacy is evident in her work with the Azulblue Autism Foundation, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Homeless Stand Down, and Crystal Darkness Campaign to name a few. Dr. Giddings is a member of the International Honor Society of nursing (Sigma Theta Tau). She is a former Assistant Professor and Alumni of UNLV.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. A Girl Scout Troop leader, entrepreneur running several small businesses, Director of a non-profit, and one of very few Black, Female Corporate VPs for the world’s largest gaming and hospitality company. These are some of the many roles Tonika plays on a daily basis.
Tonika oftentimes describes her life as a series of lives lived in one. As a teenage parent, she was determined and strengthened by the pessimism and despair of teachers and counselors. Although life got in the way of many of her early dreams, she was determined to succeed and not become a negative stereotype.
Returning to school as a “non-traditional” college student, Tonika obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in her mid- 30’s; regularly attending up to three different learning institutions at the same time, in an effort to complete her degree. She returned to school a few years later to obtain a Master’s in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and has since earned several Human Resource certifications through eCornell University and the Society for Human Resource Management.
For nearly 20 years, she has worked in Talent Development where she has been able to live within her passion of working with people, helping them to develop individualized growth plans, and watching them achieve their personal and professional goals. In her spare time, she runs a non-profit organization, Las Vegas Tumble Gym Bus, designed to help children learn and practice healthier eating habits and use play as a form of exercise.
Life hasn’t been a walk in the park for Tonika, although you would never hear her complain about it. Instead, she focused on one of her favorite quotes by Toni Morrison…”You wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down”. This advice has helped her grow into the life that was designed for her.

Natetisha’s passion derived as a lash artist 10 years ago in Anchorage, AK where she maintained a full part time clientele. She truly is an innovator, in the training of her students and her services. The love and passion Natetisha has in this industry shows through her attention to detail, and guidance to her students. Mentoring and being that helping hand is no doubt who she is. If you would have asked Natetisha 10 years ago was this her dream, she would have said, “No, not in a million years would I have saw myself here”. It was when she picked up her first set of tweezers, and serviced her first lash client. Her client stated when she opened her eyes, “I’ve never felt so beautiful (with tears in her eyes)”. A Las Vegas resident since 1999, Brittany DuPree holds two degrees from the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) - a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Mass Media Studies and a graduate degree in Public Administration with a Non-Profit Management Certification.

L'Oreal Paris 2019 Women of Worth Ni’cola Mitchell, Founder of Girls Who Brunch Tour, is a Best-Selling Author who made the Forbes List as a Change Maker in 2019 and Black Enterprise 2015 as one of the 5-Follow Worthy Bloggers to Watch. She recently received the 2021 Visa She’s Next Black Women-Owned Business Grant Recipient. Through her independent publishing company NCM Books, Ni’cola published numerous titles which have been featured on various best-selling lists throughout the country.
Much of her work revolves around complex relationship issues and Mitchell’s compulsive desire to see women overcome challenges. Ni’cola is the owner of Strategic Connections Plus, a start-up business consulting firm that facilitates the growth of small business. She has penned 17 novels, published 125 titles, and has helped over 1k authors and independent publishers publish their books successfully.
Ni’cola has also received the 2020 George H. W. Bush’s Daily Points of Light Award and the 2020 Civility for the Girl Child Initiative Honoree. As a victim of domestic violence, Ni’cola Mitchell understood first-hand how at-risk youth are significantly less likely to successfully transition into adulthood due to a lack of resources and opportunity.
Her own past led her to create Girls Who Brunch, a non-profit that combats this cultural epidemic by addressing low-income communities, and sponsoring girls in foster care, as well as sex trade victims and teen mothers. Through mentorship, workshops, STEAM training, and panel facilitations, Girls Who Brunch teaches different ways of thinking that ultimately enables at-risk girls to succeed and flourish. Ashley and Courtney will chat all things mental health, understanding the importance of healthy boundaries and being a BOSS!
Our special guest Courtney Grimes, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker also the Founder and Owner of THE COLLECTIVE, which is a treatment center focused on healing depression and anxiety at the core through the power of Social Health. Courtney’s passion for helping others is evident upon meeting her.
Through the power of acceptance and commitment, Courtney is able to facilitate lasting change among individuals, families and systems by promoting hope throughout all circumstances. Courtney specializes in eating disorder treatment, body image and self-esteem issues, depression and anxiety as well as couples/family work.
Throughout Courtney’s work as a psychotherapist and a Clinical Director in Nashville, TN, she realized there was a large gap in mental health treatment services for anxiety and depression. In response, Courtney founded THE COLLECTIVE, located in Nashville, TN, as it’s unique, “whole-istic” plan of care focusing on clients’ ability to utilize their strengths and learn to overcome their depression and anxiety, while providing a warm and welcoming community to do life with!
Previously, she maintained regular radio spots as a Sports Psychotherapist commentator for the Tennessee Titans and other athletes around the country, has been featured in numerous local magazines and publications including Nashville Lifestyles, Franklin Lifestyle, N’Focus and the Nashville Scene, and starred in an HGTV television series called “Interiors, Inc.” Courtney has chaired large fundraisers over the past 12 years in efforts to raise awareness for various causes in and around Nashville including domestic violence, breast cancer, eating disorder awareness and addiction. Courtney is a trained interventionist (BRI-II), maintaining a passion for being on the “front lines” of change, and currently serves as the Clinical Director of Renewed, a non-profit organization for the state of Tennessee, providing help, hope and support for all those suffering from disordered eating.
Courtney has a strong music background as well. She is a classically trained pianist and opera singer, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Opera Performance, and has been a part of the Nashville music industry since 1999.
Committed to shifting social undercurrent, Courtney’s work as a mental health professional aims to model compassion and understanding towards self and others in order to heal, protect, educate and advocate for a life well lived. Courtney strongly believes in, and reminds others that sustainable change is possible - from the inside out.

Kicking off January 2021, we have an amazing lineup of speakers for you and you won’t want to miss episode 5 this Thursday, with Vegas’s own Dayna Roselli. Dayna Roselli is the co-owner and co-founder of Insightful Media Company. She’s also the co-host of the “Vegas Revealed” podcast with Sean McAllister. Prior to owning her company, Dayna was a television news co-anchor and breaking news anchor for Good Morning Las Vegas and Midday on KTNV-TV Channel 13. She took that job after two years as a morning radio co-host on CBS Radio’s KXNT. Dayna moved to Las Vegas in 2004 and worked at KLAS-TV as a helicopter reporter, traffic anchor, and morning co-anchor for 8 years.
She has been a journalist for 24 years. WOW! Fifteen of those have been in Las Vegas, winning several Emmy Awards for best morning show. She has also received the College of Southern Nevada Women’s Leadership Award, two times, and landed on the “My Vegas Magazine” Top 100 Women of Influence list, three times. Dayna is also proud of her BIBO Award for Outstanding Media Leadership and her Electronic Media Award. Dayna has supported Heart To Heart, having been a panelist for the annual Your Bold Is Beautiful event in 2019. Sharing her testimony, bravery, and the REAL stories inspired many.
Dayna is originally from Rochester, New York and graduated from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. YOU made it! 2020 was a unique year. A year filled with the uncontrollable both seen and unseen. You managed to push through and I’m so very proud of you. Your resilience, persistence and unwavering faith in yourself has allowed you to see another year, which is filled with limitless opportunities. I am eager to affirm and manifest everything I want to come to pass in my life in the next 365 days. It’s very important to keep positive energy alive and not allow anyone to steal your joy. This year, I decided to switch up a few things, one being making my vision board December 31st. I wanted to walk into the new year, knowing what I want to see happen in my life. I have to tell you, it was very inspiring. January 1st I woke up to a goal that manifested overnight. Check, done! If you haven’t had the opportunity to sit, visualize and write down your goals for 2020, do it. I promise it will be life changing.
